Sessay Hub was a competition for a village sports and community facility in a village in North Yorkshire. Godsmark Architecture designed a development generated from the site and rooted to the land. The architectural design reflects the rural nature of the area and its use as a centre for outdoor sports. The form of the building is to be read as the surface of the ground being peeled up and the strata below emerging. The reason for this strategy is to give some topography to an otherwise flat site and to avoid the building being an alien intrusion in the landscape. The orientation of the proposals are as fingers splaying away from the lane through the village with the entrance sitting between the splay and the fingers pointing to the hills in the distance.
